In June 2020, the Black Scientists & Engineers of Caltech (BSEC) held a town hall to present a list of action items that Caltech could take to make it a more diverse & inclusive environment. These action items are carefully laid out in this petition, which was signed by over 1,000 Caltech affiliates.
In the year since BSEC presented their recommendations, many different groups within the Caltech community have made commitments to carry out the action items listed in that petition. One of the primary aims of C4BL is to keep Caltech accountable to these commitments, so we have compiled a report on the campus-wide response to the BSEC petition– celebrating the community’s progress and highlighting areas that remain in need of improvement:
